I have to say I find this so funny during the holiday season, which gets longer every year, which so many people become so concerned about stuff. It’s just like the old joke about people partying, smoking, drinking and sexing at the clubs on Saturday but they’re in church bowing their heads, being reverent and singing Hallelujah on Sundays.

For most of the year porn types, porn type wannabes and they people who follow them are all for partying, drinking, smoking and sexing. They talk about the great hunk they did or how much pot they smoked. Guys, and it’s mostly guys, tell of fine stories about what trains they’re run or what positions they’re done the last week. It’s all about the sex, the fun and the high.

Get around just after Halloween, where they really let their freak flag fly, all of a sudden it’s about the children. They suddenly want to show how much they care by helping orphans or getting toys for the kids. If they really want to pull the strings they’ll talk about setting up food drives or serving up dinners on Thanksgiving.

What is so out of kilter with this, especially with the Christmas stuff, is they’re talking about helping the kids in the same hedonistic environment. I’ve come across a number of posters, emails and messages about going to clubs for toy drives or helping underprivileged kids. I understand the heart being in the right place but the place isn’t right. I know this group of men that every year runs a toy drive to help orphaned kids. These groups of men have a party, which is essentially an orgy they set up. They get strippers and prostitutes to go crazy, they get all their friends to go crazy with the women, and instead of the usual ‘cover fee’ all they ask for is an unwrapped toy.

It seems odd to me because with all the sex going on at the party, it makes some logical sense that some woman will get pregnant at these parties, the man will claim not to be the daddy and the kid that results from the brief union might need to be a recipient of the generosity of the parties in a few years. Yes, I know I paint this way over the top scenario, but it’s just pushing my senses to think of these guys whoring it up all year but this one time, bringing in some present they probably got from a second hand store and they still will be sexing it up doesn’t seem to me to balance stuff out.

I saw another event mentioned on twitter. Now this is one of many being sent out, where strippers and sex stars are having toy drives. Hey, we’re going to be at the same clubs doing the same things we do all the time, but this one time if you could give us a toy to give to the children we’ll be happy. Oh sure, a toy just this one time but the same club goers who will be freaking it out and sexing it up as always think they are really doing kids a favor.

Maybe I’m being too hard on them. Maybe because they are doing something I should be happy. Well, I’m not! Many years ago I was with a friend in the ritzy part of San Diego. We went by a Santa Claus ringing a bell. This was late afternoon, the streets were crowded and they’re had been stories about how bad the economy was and how the kettle bell people just weren’t getting the money they used to get. People were walking by with bundles of presents and these rich folks were putting change in the kettle. We could hear the jingle of money echoing from the inside. After a few minutes we walked over and the kettle maybe had $30 in bills and change. They bell ringer said he had been there since the morning. Now, sure, he might have been lying, but from the little bit of time we were there the holiday spirit wasn’t looking too good. Both of us weren’t exactly rich, but we both tossed in $5.

Now where I get so bent out of shape with the party people is they’re doing the clubbing just like always. They’re shelling out for the drinks, the atmosphere and the aura of sex. They might spend $50 to $500 in the club, not even thinking about it. Why can’t they use that money and spend it on the kids? We’re talking one night where they can just give it without expecting anything in return. No, they rater ‘save’ on the cover charge and still get their groove on. I just think it’s a smack in the face because they aren’t really giving.
